As part of its social responsibility program and its commitment to the empowerment of women and the development of the sports culture

Kuwait, 24 October 2023:  In its continued efforts to bolster Kuwait’s sports culture and empower young aspiring female athletes, Burgan Bank announced its gold sponsorship of the Kuwait Women’s Football League (KWFL) for the 2023 season; in partnership with Kuwait Calma and in affiliation with the Kuwait Football Association. 

This sponsorship comes as part of Burgan’s commitment to championing diversity and inclusivity across all fields, including sports, in line with its environment, sustainability, and governance (ESG) commitment and its overarching social responsibility strategy. The Bank also continues to make sports a central part of its community engagement initiatives. 

In light of this sponsorship, Ms. Hessa Hussain Al-Najadah, Senior Manager - Corporate and CSR Communications at Burgan Bank, said: “We are very proud of our national athletes, especially the women, who continue to challenge their own limits in pursuit of bigger athletic achievements and personal growth. Today, we can see women breaking many boundaries and earning their place in society through the brilliance they exhibit across all fronts and the passion they bring to their fields. As part of our mission to empower women and support rising talents, we are delighted to be sponsoring the Kuwait Women’s Football League this year.”

It serves to note that the KWFL team has participated in many tournaments and leagues over the past years, with the majority of the league’s members having competed on the Kuwait Women's National Futsal team in a number of national and international games. Among their notable achievements is winning the Kuwait National Women’s Futsal League in both 2020 and 2021.

In addition to its gold sponsorship of the KWFL, Burgan Bank has also sponsored a number of national athletic stars, including Kuwaiti Olympians Yaqoub Al-Youha, Mudhawi Al-Shammari, Ebrahim Al-Dhafeeri Amal Al Roumi, and Jude Tawfiq, in addition to Wheelchair Fencing Champion Tareq Al-Qallaf and the Kuwait Equestrian Federation (KEF) league.
