The Crown Prince of Kuwait Awards Google Cloud's Vint Cerf Honorary Informatics Medal

Vint Cerf awarded for his pioneering work in the architecture of the Internet 

Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 25, 2023 - Today, Google Cloud announced that Vint Cerf, Chief Internet Evangelist, was awarded Kuwait’s Informatics Medal from HH Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of Kuwait. Vint received the honorary award for his pioneering work in the architecture of the Internet. The Informatics Medal is the highest recognition in Kuwait bestowed upon an Arab or an international figure for their outstanding contributions to informatics and societal development.

Vint Cerf received the award at a ceremony presided over by His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikha Aida Salem Al Ali Al Sabah, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Bassam Al-Shammari, Chairman of the organizing committee at the Al-Sabah Informatics Award.

On the occasion, Vint Cerf, Chief Internet Evangelist at Google Cloud said: “I would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of Kuwait, for his gracious recognition and for the honorable award. I am truly honored and humbled to receive the Informatics award as it is the first recognition I receive in the Middle East. The award is a testament to Kuwait's focus on the importance of technology and how it touches everyone's lives in today's world. The focus is definitely driven from the top and is strengthened by Kuwait's National Vision 2035.”

As part of the strategic alliance with the Government, Google Cloud held an exclusive developer & youth hub event at the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Cultural Centre, where Vint Cerf spoke to hundreds of university students, young professionals and developers on the future of the Internet and artificial intelligence. The event was held to activate the dialogue on how digital transformation can help serve the future of Kuwait and the crucial role the country’s youth have in realizing the National Vision 2035 with the support of the latest technological solutions.
